The technology is out there, and making home manufacture of weapons illegal is not going to stop criminals from continuing doing this. The ATF video in that piece showed a machine gun that had been made like this. That was every bit as illegal as you want to make the manufacture of semi-auto "ghost guns" (still a stupid term). Home manufacture with intent to sell the gun is also, already, illegal. It's ludicrous to pretend that outlawing home manufacture will stop these guns from being made and sold by criminals. They will still make them, the guns will still only be found at crime scenes, and, just like today, the only way you'll find out who made the gun or what its chain of provenance was will be by getting the criminals to rat each other out.
If the only goal is keeping those of us who abide by the law from being able to make our own guns, then yes, you'll manage to achieve that goal. If the goal is stopping criminals making their own guns or improving the ability to trace these guns, that is going to fail abysmally.

This is one of the favorite straw man arguments. We don't think criminals will obey laws. You keep pretending we do, and you keep pretending to argue against the idea. It's just another form of the inherent dishonest in the gun rights position.
The way it is now, lawful gun owners as well as criminals are taking advantage of the opportunity to own untraceable weapons. If they were illegal ONLY criminals would do that. Get it?
All guns should be untraceable. It's none of the government's damned business who owns what firearms.
I think Mikeb's biggest objection to this is that his "all 'illegal guns' started out legal, and the key is to find out where the gun transitioned from legal to illegal" is becoming less and less true every day,

Tracing guns helps catch bad guys. I don't understand why you pro gunners want to help bad guys.
