Texas Man Injured in Accidental Shooting

Local news reports

Houston police are investigating the apparent accidental shooting of a man who attempted to grab a gun from a toddler in south Houston.
Patrick Sanders, 20, of Houston, was sleeping on the couch in the living room of the apartment when a gun in his pants pocket fell out and onto the floor, police said. As Sanders woke up, a three-year-old boy picked up the gun. Police said Sanders saw the child with the gun and as he tried to grab it from the boy the gun went off and Sanders was shot in the face.
The child was not injured. Sanders was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he remained Monday in critical condition.

  1. I'm having a hard time working up much sympathy for the guy. On the plus side, the child wasn't hurt.

    1. What does that mean? - that you naturally try to develop sympathy for gun owners regardless of how irresponsible their behavior is?

    2. I normally try to allow for the facts to come out and due process run their course. In this case, I'm assuming they got this information from the guy. I imagine he's feeling pretty stupid.

    3. To bad it won't scare him in to putting his gun in a gun safe while around children. He fell asleep with it in his pocket and it fell on the floor, then he freaked out and grabbed it in such a way it went off, HA HA HA what a fucking idiot.

    4. "feeling pretty stupid," id fine, but what should be done with a guy like this?

Can always charge him under the safe storage law. Might want to wait on that to see if he lives first though.

    6. Love the way gun loons are willing to accept death before they accept any rational moves to prevent deaths. I guess we have to produce dead bodies to prove something is unsafe, then they just say, oh well, that's life, shit happens.

  2. There are no accidental discharges only negligent ones. One of the great coups gun nuts have pulled off is blithely allowing the tens of thousand s wounded by unsafe ammosexuals to be discounted in the gun violence which makes guns in the hands of gun maniacs such a public health menace.

For the most part I agree with you Gene. Almost all of the "accidental" shootings are more accurately negligent shootings. We did actually discuss a shooting here that turned out to be a true accidental shooting in that it involved a flaw in the mechanism of the rifle.
The rifle was sent to the FBI lab and after the report came back, charges were dropped. But again, a very rare occurrence.

    2. The true accident is as rare as a piece of the round coming all the way back to the firing line and injuring a shooter. In other words, rare enough that we can generally assume in any specific case that it didn't happen.
