How a "good guy with a gun" took a fatal bullet to the back

In the gun loon world, a good guy with a gun stopped the carnage (well, it was a good guy and gal with a gun by committed suicide, but that's beside the point).  The reality is this from the Daily Kos:
Wilcox, 31, was near the cash registers when he saw events unfolding. He was armed with gun of his own, and told a friend he was going to do something.
Joseph thought he was sneaking up on Jerad Miller:
It was at that point, instead of running, Wilcox approached Jerad Miller from behind.
It didn't work out the way Joseph thought it would:
As he moved to confront Jerad Miller, Wilcox passed Amanda, not realizing the two were together. She slipped behind Wilcox and shot him at close range.
Now, I'm sure the proponents of concealed and/or open carry here (and elsewhere) will argue that he should have known better, that he should have done more training, that he lacked "situational awareness," that...

Well, you get the point.

  1. Yeah, I get your point: the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to bitch about the NRA on the internet.

This man put his life on the line. Show some respect.

    1. The man failed in situational awareness and paid for his mistake.

    2. Yes, but he failed doing the right thing.

Sometimes doing the right thing isn't successful, but that doesn't make it wrong. Not too long ago much was made of a man that went up against a man intent on harm, who was fortunately successful. Mr. Wilcox is no less deserving of admiration.

    1. He obviouls did not do the right thing if he ended up dead. He didn't know what was going on, or who was where before he just started shooting.

Anon, you need to work on reading the article before making a comment. The permit holder fired no shots and was shot from behond, just like the two police officers who were killed first.
He died rushing to the defense of others.

    3. I agree that his actions were heroic. Simply deciding to confront a danger rather than cower away is brave. But, he failed utterly in one of the basic skills you guys often boast about - situational awareness.

  3. Ultimately the good guys in uniform, the appropriate authority, not some concealed carry ammosexual, stopped the bad guys with guns.

It turns out that the cops shot the two gun nuts in Las Vegas. Good job cops; bad job U.S. gun culture that those two could so easily acquire those guns.

Umm, no. They committed suicide. Or to be more precise, a murder-suicide. The wife shot the husband and then shot herself. So no, the good guys in uniform did not stop anything. They came to make reports and draw lines. In the end the good guys in uniform lost more than the "ammosexuals" did by two to one. And by the same method, ambushed from the rear.
