Florida Shooting on Campus - It Was Self Defense

  1. I guess self-defense is a reasonable claim once everybody is fighting and shooting guns. Self-defense would seem to be the only reasonable course of action at such a point. Why was anybody beating up on another student? I got in one minor tiff in third grade. I also challenged a roommate once as a sophomore in college. It was never a question of trying to kill the other guy.

  2. This is a complicated situation, apparently, so it's hard to say who did what to get things started, but a beating isn't something that a person should have to put up with.

Let's also note the idiocy of the eyewitnesses. A beating is going on, and they don't react, but hey, there's a gun. Oh, noes! What is wrong with people that they tolerate a beating?

  3. Two against one, and one of the attackers has a weapon. And there are witnesses. Still not many details, but this sounds like justifiable self defense to me.

"Police said two people, Amado Contreras and Landyer Contreras, came on campus and confronted a student, Landrick Hamilton. They said a verbal argument turned into a physical fight. With one of the suspects beating Hamilton with a pool cue. Police said Hamilton then went to his car, got a gun, and shot Amado Contreras."

    1. Sure, no time to explain your dishonest statements, but plenty of time to post more on other posts.

  4. I agree that this one may have been legitimate self-defense. But, it's also an example of how guns make matters worse. Had there been no gun in the car, the guy probably would not have been beaten to death. He probably would have found a way to escape without resorting to the gun.

    1. How much of a beating is he expect to take before using lethal force? If he was only going to be permanently disabled is that ok?

    2. The attacker wasn't shot to death either.
