In North Dakota a Dangerous Deer Hunter Shoots a Dumb Duck Hunter - No Charges

A hunter was injured Saturday morning in an accidental shooting in southeast Foster County, Sheriff Michael Tufte reported.

Tufte said a waterfowl hunter was accidentally hit in the lower abdomen after a deer hunter shot at a buck that was running toward the area where the waterfowl hunters were concealed.

The waterfowl hunters heard the shooting and were putting on blaze orange clothing to become more visible when one of them was hit, Tufte said.

  1. So we have a group of men out hunting in camouflage (waterfowl hunters do that), and its the deer hunters' fault? Ever see what lengths duck hunters go to be stealthy?

    1. Are you saying it's NOT the deer hunter's fault? The guy who fired the offending shot without being sure of his target, was not at fault?????

    2. You mean he should have seen camouflaged hunters in a that were apparently on the other side of a running deer. So far, that is all we know since I haven't seen anything out there to back up Anon's post.
Deer hunters wear orange to reduce the possibility of being mistaken for a deer. Deer are colorblind so the color is immaterial. Duck hunters don't have that concern because very few hunters fly through the air like a duck. Ducks aren't colorblind so they go all out for camouflage.
I'll admit that I didn't know they had both seasons at the same time. That seems to be asking for trouble.

    3. Mike, if you're so adamant about the deer hunter being taken to task for not seeing the camouflaged duck hunters, then why are you calling the duck hunter dumb?

    4. The duck hunter was dumb because he was just putting on his orange colors at the time of the shooting, not before. I am adamant about the deer hunter being in the wrong. Why do you defend someone who violated the basic safety rules?

  2. story has been falsely reported. ya it was the dear hunters fault. the shot was taken at 210 yds and hit a guy picking up decoys in the middle of a combined corn field with 7 other guys 3 of which already were wearing orange. if you cant tell human from deer at 210 yds you shouldnt be allowed to hunt especially if you are seeing a deer in your scope along with 8 men standing up in a flat ass corn field. the guy who took this shot fucked up bad and fled the scene as well. good thing the guy is ok.

    1. Anon,
Do you have a link for this info? If so, could you please post it?

    2. ss, why are you trying so hard to defend the negligent asshole who shot someone by mistake?

here is the link from the forum which a first hand account was given from one of the waterfowl hunters who was there. the sheriff is obviously a moron for saying waterfowl hunters should not hunt until deer season is over or completely changing the story that actually happened. my guess he is a good old boy from the town and possibly knows the shooter which is completely fucked up. the guy who shot is a dumb fuck because three of his party hunting buddies did not shoot at a deer in extremely close proximity to 8 men in a combined cornfield at the distance given. the sheriff has some motive to protect this guy because the story told to him was the same one written on this forum no doubt.

    4. Thanks for posting this update Anon. I agree that in those circumstances, the guy who shot the duck hunter should be getting in some big time trouble. I'm curious as to why the Sheriff hasn't released anything in regards to looking for the guy. As in we are looking for this guy, here's his description, etc.
His running away makes it look more intentional than accidental.

    5. sorry ssg made it sound a little off there...the sheriff knows who the kid is who took the shot. they just left and didnt come over to help after they realized what had happened. sheriff does know who he is though and not a man hunt or anything like that. it is just really weird the sheriff made statements saying they were sitting in their blinds etc. it was no doubt an accident, but incredibly stupid decision to take the shot he did and very fishy the sheriff is reporting falsely thats all
