Mother Jones

annual mass shooting casualties

Mendacious idiot gun-rights fanatics have tried to claim this is a lie.

  1. Interesting--accusations of lying from someone who wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the ass.

  2. I cited my sources. This time, go read them.

    1. Look at that bar chart, Greg.

    2. 1. No, that chart doesn't show an increase. It shows that there's a lot of variation from year to year, but the overall trend is flat.

      2. That's also in a time when our population increased by more than 75,000,000. The rate per hundred thousand is going down, according to that chart.

  3. This doesn't even show a "rise". It just shows 2012 as being a bad year.

    1. Look at the chart, TS. You don't see a gradual and steady rise? That makes you blind as well as a liar.

    2. You call that “gradual and steady”? This data is very unstable, with sharp peaks and valleys, largely because of the small total numbers it is dealing with, and being strongly driven by single incidents. It is the exact opposite of “steady”. Let me ask you this, Mike. What would the title of this post be in 2010? Or 2011?

I also noticed that you have been making wildly liberal use of the “liar” word lately (mostly directed at Greg and Tennessean). You and I have been quite cordial to each other over the years, and I would prefer you to think more rationally before you throw those accusations at me. Thanks.

    3. Sorry about that. You certainly don't have a history of lying like some of the other commenters do. It does seem like you're being typically stubborn and biased in this argument though. The chart shows a clear and steady increase. 2012 IS part of the chart, so your idea of removing it in order to claim whatever you're claiming is bullshit.
