Arizona Minuteman Arrested for Pointing AR-15 at Sheriff’s Deputy

As a justification for his bizarre actions he said he was "in fear for his life."

In the post-SYG world, these are the new magic words that excuse everything.

  1. Because fear for your life wasn't the key element in a claim of self defense before Stand Your Ground...

    1. No, it was, but now it's become some kind of buzz word that even nuts like this guy spurt out nonsensically.

    2. Ah, I see. And how is it that Adding an element to the law caused the preexisting element to become better known rather than the new element: "I had every right to be here!"

And while you're explaining that, explain how people trying to utilize this defense, even when it doesn't apply to them, discredits the defense in normal circumstances.

Does this mean that the Insanity Defense is discredited because people try to claim it? Because the Appalachian School of Law shooter dropped his gun, put his hands in the air, and started asking for psychological help when confronted by other armed students?

    3. "it was self-defense" and "the devil made me do it" are two excuses the guilty use because they are valid reasons in our justice system. So is the most common buzz word excuse, "I didn't do it".

  2. MikeB: "In the post-SYG world, these are the new magic words that excuse everything."

    Then why was he arrested?

  3. Notice how he was charged. He's likely to be convicted. Some magic.

But let's also note that in this situation, Mikeb, you're joining sides with Sheriff Arpaio. That must be a strange feeling for you.

    1. Yes, indeed, I'm on the side of the sheriff and you're on the side of the gun nut crying SYG as he's taken off in handcuffs.

    2. Not at all. Show me where I'm on the side of the man arrested here.
