Virginia Woman Fires at Seven People, Including Children, for Turning Around in Driveway

Hawkins woman allegedly fires at seven people, including children, for turning around in driveway
Margie Rhea Ramey, 72

Times News reports

A Virginia couple who took their five children on an outing at Bays Mountain Park Sunday afternoon were greeted with gunfire shortly after crossing the Hawkins County line in an attempt to take a scenic route home.

Oscar Scott of Rose Hill, Va. told the Times-News that he and his family decided to explore a scenic way back into Virginia through Hawkins and Hancock counties.
Almost immediately after crossing the Hawkins County line, however, they came upon Bays Mt. Road which runs adjacent to the Sullivan County line.
“We came around the side of the mountain and saw a road that turned to the right that said Bays Mt. Road,” Scott said. “We figured we’d take it and see if it came out at Bays Mountain Park. We got pretty far down that road and you could see where it turned into an old log road, so I put the vehicle in reverse to turn around.”
Scott added, “Just as I got it into reverse she started shooting at us.”
Scott said a woman setting on her porch about 150 feet from the road fired two shots at the 1999 Chevy Tahoe he was driving. One shot actually hit the running board on the passenger side just a few feet from where his five children, ages 4-12, were seated.
How much you wanna bet the plea-bargain the charges down and granny gets to keep her guns? That's how they do it in rural Virginia. That's how the gun-nut cops and the gun-nut prosecutors conspire to help out the other gun nuts when they get in trouble.

  1. Mikeb, you lie and expose your bigotry every day, but when you show me your law license and your work history in rural Virginia, then, at least, you'll have some support for your nonsense.

    1. What the hell are you talking about now?

    2. You're bigoted against people in rural areas. You've made slurs against such people frequently. But here you're claiming to know what goes on in the minds of county prosecutors and sheriffs, despite the fact that, as Tennessean explained, you don't know what you're talking about.

  2. Old, flabby, and crabby. Another "law abiding gun owner" shooting over trivial things. And at children, no less! Thank goodness no one was hit -- this time.

    1. Posted any pictures of yourself lately? Two out of three doesn't leave a whole lot of ground for you to stand on.

    2. She was another law abiding gun owner, as Baldr said. You guys keep doing shit like this.

    3. You guys? Show me where I've ever done this. Or show me where 99% of gun owners do this. Oh, right, you can't.

    4. You love to claim kinship with all the 100 million gun owners when you minimize the tragedy of kid shootings. Now, all of a sudden, you're disavowing that kinship?

It doesn't have to be 99% for the whole lot of you to take the blame. The ones of you who are careful and responsible generally fight for lax laws that allow the unfit and the irresponsible to continue enjoying their gun rights. So, you can't have it both ways. Either you're part of a whole or you're not. And when the whole is responsible for the never ending parade of misery that we read about in the news, you (singular) must own your share.

    5. Am I responsible for drunk driving because I support legal alcohol? Am I responsible for bad writing because I support free expression? The level of responsibility with regard to firearms incidents is the same.

Again, given the numbers of deaths per annum, more than ninety-nine percent of us do no wrong with our guns every year. You keep trying to lump women like the one in this article with those of us who do no wrong, but that doesn't fly.

  3. 1: This incident happened in Tennessee, not Virginia--work on reading for comprehension.

2: Your slander of rural Virginia, and presumably rural Tennessee if you could figure out where the incident happened, is baseless. You don't know how laws are enforced in the area, but that doesn't stop you from stating your opinions as if they were facts.

3: Will there be a plea bargain? Probably--over 90% of cases result in plea bargains. That being said, the prosecutors aren't going to conspire to give this lady a pass so that she can keep her guns. The bargain will be regarding how many years the lady spends in jail. She'll be charged with Aggravated Assault (felony charge) on each person in the vehicle, so the question will be how many years per charge and can she serve the time concurrently.

I don't do much criminal defense work, but from what I've done I can say that the prosecutors in this area don't hesitate at all to bring felony charges. For something like this, they're not going to knock it down to a misdemeanor just so that the ancient bitch can keep her guns. That's not how they work.

    1. What slander? Is simply posting a story of what one of you lawful gun owners did slander?

    2. I wasn't talking about the posting of the story, but about your insults to the area and your talking out your ass about how the law is enforced here.

    3. BTW, looks like they went with reckless endangerment rather than assault. Either way, because of the gun's involvement, the charges are felony charges. As I said, one charge for each person in the vehicle--7 charges.

And that information is in the original article, which makes me wonder if you didn't read the whole thing or just hoped that nobody would follow the link and call you on it.

    6. It's back up. You have my permission to delete the questioning comment if you want. I just didn't know what happened since I had seen the comment pop up and disappear.

I'm saying this here instead of an e-mail so that there won't be any questions by others if they see the 9:43 comment disappear.

  4. You really ought not to make comments about how local prosecutors' offices operate when you have no experience with them. Especially when some of your readers do.

Your police and DA conspiracy to let people keep their guns is nonexistent. It bears no resemblance to how the prosecutors actually operate here. Of course, that doesn't stop you from pontificating about how you KNOW cases will turn out here. (This is at least the second occasion.)

You really need to stop making shit up, hoping nobody will call you on it.

  5. Based on the text of this article, the elderly woman is a criminal and I fully embrace the local criminal justice system prosecuting her accordingly.
