Open Carry - Gun Hand Entangled in a Dog Leash

That dog will hunt (courtesy opencarry.org)

  1. Wow, why are Americans so frightened to be without their guns?

And they call someone who goes about a large metropolitan area without a gun a coward.

I call them seriously reality challeneged.~~Maybe, we should set up a programme where they spend some time in North Korea. Let them get a taste of a real Tyranny.

    1. I don't call people cowards just because they choose not to carry a gun. I call you a coward because you're a bully who hates freedom, but can't stick around to engage in the discussion.

    2. He's not a bully; you are simply too boring to debate.

This is not the correct way to walk a dog, and it's stupid besides to be carrying a firearm this way when, as Laci notes, the gun hand is not available to safely use the weapon, and poses a danger to the public where not carrying lethal force does not.

This is a gun carrier BEGGING to have her gun taken away from her and used against her - or just stolen, and used on someone else.

      Idiot. UNSAFE idiot.

    3. Too boring to debate--that would better describe you and Laci with your circle jerk blog.

    4. Not the proper way to walk a dog? You elitist prig, no one cares what you think is the proper way. The dog looks happy to me. That's good enough.

    5. Out of curiosity, Dog Gone, do you ever question authority? When I was growing up, my mother and I took our golden retriever to obedience training. We were told the same thing about walking a dog on the left. But that was for the specialized world of dog shows--and hunting, as I said elsewhere in this thread. This picture isn't a scene out of Best in Show.

  2. Entangled? That hand isn't entangled. In fact, what we see there is two layers of security. If someone endangers her life, she releases the hound and draws.

    1. She's a silly cow who thinks the gun is a magic talisman. There's no situational awareness. When seconds count, seconds count. Isn't that what you guys keep saying? Well, why in the fuck would any gun owner leave their non-gun hand free and tie up the gun hand?

      Delete
    2. Mikeb, you do realize that this is a staged picture, right? Besides, situational awareness involves being aware of one's surroundings. I don't see anything in that picture that makes me jump to Condition Orange. She doesn't look unaware, either. Dropping the leash would take less than a second.

But let's focus on yet another one of your prejudices. You call her a silly cow. You're not only a racist; you're also a sexist. When are you ever going to get over your bigotry?

    3. No. Wrong. Bad.

The stupid thing to do is to lose control of either your gun or your dog; nor should she be walking with a gun in such a way that she could also have her legs entangled in the leash.

Speaking as someone who has trained people and dogs to do this correctly, and as someone aware of gun safety, Laci is correct.

It is not easy to drop a leash if that leash becomes taught; there are certain correct ways to hold a leash and incorrect ways - this is incorrect.

Additionally the correct way for a dog to be walking is on the left side, taking cues for speed and direction from both leash/lead and the movement of the walker's left leg. This dog is no close enough to do that, nor in the correct heel position. This owner/handle is NOT in proper control of this dog. That means in an altercation the dog will be in the way of a proper safe response.

Geeze, you morons will drool and panic in support of any fool with a gun no matter how wrong or bad they are. You have no integrity.

    4. Nothing racist about calling the woman a silly cow; it is appropriate to her stupid behavior, if slightly rude. Or by race, did you confuse species and ancestry? She is looking down; not looking around - that qualifies as unaware.

When are you ever going to get over your stupidity, Greg? I'm guessing slower than MikeB gets over any minor prejudices he might or might not have.

    5. Dog gone, the racism charge comes from Mike's past comments. The charge here was sexism. Had a Republican called someone a cow, you'd be screaming about it for a week on Penigma, but since Mike did it, it's perfectly fine, and Greg's an idiot for bringing it up.

    6. Dog Gone, do you realize that the business of walking the dog on the left comes out of hunting where the rifle or shotgun would be in the right arm? That's for convenience with a long gun. But it's also the snobby idea that upper-class people are better than everyone else, since there's nothing wrong with how she's walking that dog. You're just trying to find something to criticize her for because she has a gun. Of course, where you carried you gun, you've never told us.

And bigotry can be hatred of women as well as other races. But do tell us: Do you approve of his bigoted--in the sense of sexist--remark?

  3. Um, Mike--how long does it take to let go of a leash?

Your desperation to invent criticisms of armed citizens gets funnier all the time.

While I don't open carry, my carry permit doesn't require me to carry concealed. That would be a personal decision, just as it is a personal decision to not carry.
We don't need to spend any time in the Democratic People's Republic. (funny how the most repressive countries include the word Democrat in it)

  5. Mike,

You leaving these random photos with a snappy title with no link is sort of fun at times. For example, this photo is from an article announcing that the state of Arkansas is becoming the fifth state in the union to enact Constitutional carry. As in no permit at all needed to carry.

As for the tactical critique about holding something in her gun hand, all she has to do is straighten her fingers and the leash will fall to the ground. Considering that most people shoot with their dominate hand, you could just as well post a photo of a police officer writing a ticket and complain about that too.
The important thing is that she is able to carry if she choses to.

    1. False assumption about the leash.

The important thing is that it is a bad thing when stupid, ill-trained people carry guns.

Not a civil or intelligent state that passes such laws.

Also her age raises a question from the photo.

    2. You're being a little generous in your assessment of her ability to simply drop the leash. And unlike the cop writing a ticket, she could just as easily hold the leash in the other hand.

I'm surprised you won't give me this one. Are you being influenced by the likes of Greg and Tennessean.

We might not hear from T. for a while, by the way. He's gone away mad over my commenting policy - again.

    3. Mikeb, if you'd come up with valid criticisms, we'd acknowledge them.

That's a "victory" for you, I suppose, in light of the fact that Tennessean regularly shot your arguments down in flames.

    5. Dog Gone, are we to assume that Minnesota is stupid and uncivilized? It is a shall-issue state, just like Arkansas.

  6. Does anyone else find it odd that Mikeb consistently refers to people who insist on being armed at all times (or close it it) as "paranoid," but when a woman carries in such a way as to slow her draw down by perhaps a tenth of a second, she's apparently taking an irresponsible risk?

    1. Excellent point. He doesn't want people to be armed in public, but when he finds a case where he thinks she'd be slowed down in an armed response, he attacks her for that.

    1. A discussion about the proper way to practice open carry and situational awareness and whether or not this girl is doing that is not meaningless.

I suppose it's meaningless to you whenever we criticize any gun owner.

    2. Really? That's what you're calling this?

  8. Apparently, when Dog Gone carries she keeps her gun hand four inches off her hip and always free with her fingers twitching like a duel scene from a Spagetti western. She would never glance down at her feet to watch her step, or look at her dog because that's the moment her stalker will pounce.

  9. Mike, doggone and Laci probably has a real problem with concealed carry then. It takes much more action than just dropping a leash to access the weapon of a concealed carrier. That means concealed carry should be outlawed according to those three and open carry only allowed. And only with a free gun hand.

    Yeah, that will work.
