A Florida judge has denied a request from George Zimmerman's defense attorney to acquit the neighborhood watch volunteer of second-degree murder for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara argued for acquittal Friday after prosecutors rested their case.
O'Mara said prosecutors hadn't proved their case. He said there was enormous evidence presented over the past two weeks that Zimmerman had acted in self-defense.

Prosecutor Richard Mantei argued the state had met its burden and that Zimmerman had lied about what happened.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting 17-year-old Martin last year. He pleaded not guilty, claiming self-defense.

  1. This is standard, though I'd say that the defense here has raised sufficient reasonable doubt that if it weren't a politicized case, the judge would have made a different and correct ruling.

    1. Kurt, here's an example of a biased, closed-minded, gun-rights fanatic who is blindly supporting Zimmerman. In spite of all the lies GZ told, the nonsense about not knowing the SYG laws, and especially the lack of DNA where it should have been according to his story, Greg thinks the poor murderer/would-be-victim George Zimmerman should have been acquitted already.

    2. Why do you say he is "blindly supporting Zimmerman"? He seems to know details of the case quite well.

Couldn't we say the same thing about you? Here's a test for you, Mike. If your support is based on facts, then explain what is going on during the roughly 90 seconds where Zimmerman is talking to the dispatcher AFTER the "we don't need you to do that" part. Back up your explaination using facts from the tape. You see, I'm sure you'll also accuse me of "blind support", but I started off supporting Martin (in as much as you can call it "support" at the very early stage of information). Listening to the whole tape is what changed my support. Still, I reserved myself from declaring Zimmerman innocent, in light of a secret piece of information that shows Zimmerman started the fight. Now that the prosecution has rested their case, we know they had no such ace up their sleeve.

    3. Mikeb, I don't know for certain who is to blame for what happened. What I do know is that there's plenty of reasonable doubt, and that's the standard in American law. Of course, reasonable isn't something that gun control freaks get.
