Black Conservative Leaders Discuss How The NRA Was Created To Protect Freed Slaves

Ammoland

Now, wait just a minute here. Didn't the new prez of the NRA just tell us why the organization was started?

The NRA was started, 1871, right here in New York state.  It was started by some Yankee generals who didn’t like the way my southern boys had the ability to shoot in what we call the ‘War of Northern Aggression.’ Now y’all call it the Civil War, but we call it the War of Northern Aggression down South.

“But that was the very reason that they started the National Rifle Association — it was to teach and train the civilian in the use of the standard military firearm.

  1. I'd recommend you read a book titled "Negros With Guns" by Robert F. Williams. Mr Williams returned home from serving as a US Marine and experienced the oppression of the Jim Crow laws enacted by Democrats in the south. One of the things he did was to form an NRA Chapter and help train members in the black community so they could defend themselves.
He also formed the Black Armed Guard to defend the local community since law enforcement was sympathetic to the racist organizations. Laci, and possibly you would likely refer to them as vigilantes. So yes, the NRA assisted groups fighting the klan and other racist groups in the Democrat run south.

    1. "Assisted" is not what these Black Conservatives said.

  2. You just can't see how something could have more than one cause. But you've been shown the racist roots of gun control before.

    1. No, Greg, I'm afraid I can't reconcile what these Black Conservatives are saying with what the NRA president told us a couple weeks ago.

The "racist roots of gun control" have as little to do with today's issues as the 2A does, and that's none.

    2. You can't reconcile how yankee generals would want to make the future recruits for the US army more effective soldiers AND want to help newly freed blacks, freed in or because of the war they just fought, defend themselves from the KKK?

Gee, Mike, I'd think an elementary school student could see the link there.

And besides, didn't you and Laci spend several posts putting down the NRA head for saying that? Telling us how marksmanship wouldn't have mattered to these generals? Telling us how this couldn't be true?

But now it's gospel when you can use it against another rationale pointed out by another group.

    3. Also, regarding the racist roots of gun control, it is relevant to point out when your side points to the old racist laws as proof of a long history of acceptance of gun control in the US.

It also has relevance as an example of how gun control can be used to take power from a minority and push them around.

Finally, an argument can be made against many of the financially onerous gun control schemes by pointing to the disparate effect they have on minority communities. Yeah, this is a weak argument, but many disparate impact arguments are weak.

    4. Since the Constitution is still the foundation of American law, you mean that the one has as much to do with the present as the other.

But you don't have to reconcile anything. I don't care. All that I require from you is that you stop trying to violate our rights.

    5. "But now it's gospel when you can use it against another rationale pointed out by another group."

      Who said anything was gospel?

    6. Ah, so you prefer that nothing be gospel. Well, that certainly makes arguing easier. If nothing is nailed down as the truth, anything can be the truth at the moment.

Of course, this is what you love to accuse us of doing in our arguments, but it better reflects you and your side's refusal to be nailed down on anything.
