The M Word - Militia, Explained

via The Official Tea Party USA

What does the West Virginia Irregulars First Battalion Civilian Militia have to do with the Culpepper Minutemen?

  1. No, Asswipe, you want to know what the founders thought about people like you? Look up Shays' Rebellion. This is what Samuel Adams says about people like you:

"Rebellion against a king may be pardoned, or lightly punished, but the man who dares to rebel against the laws of a republic ought to suffer death."

    George Washington wrote:

"I am mortified beyond expression when I view the clouds that have spread over the brightest morn that ever dawned in any country... What a triumph for the advocates of despotism, to find that we are incapable of governing ourselves and that systems founded on the basis of equal liberty are merely ideal and fallacious."

The nation you envision would not have lasted 10 years (Shays happened less than 3 years after the Revolution ended). In fact, the nation you propose would not exist since it would be what is now called a "failed state".

I will add that Shays Rebellion was the main impetus for the adoption of the US Constitution.

Anyway, the Constitution makes it clear that the role of the militia is "execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions" (Article I, Section 8, Clause 15) and that waging war on the US is Treason (Article III, Section iii). Article IV, Section 4 talks about "domestic violence", which is what you are advocating.

SO, unless the implication is that the average American is a moron who has no idea of US history or what the Constitution means, then I would agree with you.

But, forget it if you want to turn the US into Somalia, Afghanistan, or just another failed state. That's not "freedom" by any definition of the word.
