Paranoid Fanatic with Giant Amygdala Gives Carry Advice

They love this guy on TTAG because they all enjoy a bigger than average amygdala too.

"The I-phone makes a pretty good impact device." he said with an uncharacteristic smile.

  1. Hey, let's generalize about the brains of the other side and make fun of them for having brains with certain parts that are different sizes! That's never led to a bad outcomes in the past!

    1. It's all in good fun around here. Lighten up, will ya? Look at it from our side. We're trying to understand how people can be so fearful of imaginary dangers that in most cases never happen.

    2. How about you accept that your pet hypothesis is wrong?

    3. Mikeb,

The problem that ails society is not the FACT that more civilians are choosing to arm themselves as a rational preparation for a possible event, but the fact that many people still go unarmed or that those who are wise enough to not venture out in public naked (unarmed) do so vastly under-equipped in comparison to today's criminal. Long gone are the days of the lone felon armed with a switchblade, bat, or the occasional .25 ACP. Most criminals come in packs (including up to a dozen members in my experience), and are packing REAL assault rifles (not the civvie legal toys) and such firepower simply cannot be matched by a common handgun (let alone an unarmed victim). Those who arm themselves must obtain REAL firepower (at least two pistols in States without open carry) or some form of PDW (Personal Defense Weapon for all you newbies) in States with sensible gun laws. Pistols need a MINIMUM of 15 rounds to be effective and ought to have more stopping power than your average pea-shooter (I'm talking .45 acp .357 sig, 10mm auto, or .44 mag in a IMI Desert Eagle or an AutoMag) If your state doesn't trust you to open carry a SCAR, H&K G3, or an AR15, or bans effective magazines (especially the 7 round limit in the Peoples Republic of New York) then you need to be carrying a MINIMUM of two sidearms of reasonable caliber.

Only when you can outgun your attacker will you cease to be a victim. We are partners now. CARRY your responsibility.

    4. All in good fun huh? That's why you post scientific studies to back up your slurs, and why your buds Dog Gone and Laci pontificate on theories about guns as compensation for sexual inadequacy, paranoia, etc. in a serious tone and tell those who disagree that they are ignorant rubes who haven't studied the issue enough.

      RIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.

It's in about as much good fun as any other bigot's jokes about watermelon, fried chicken, etc. and, frankly, you look just as ludicrous making that excuse as those other parties do.

    5. Oh, you poor mistreated gun owners. You're so prejudiced against.

Behind the "good fun" is a truth that you don't like. Most gun owners, especially of the gun-rights-advocacy type are operating out of irrational fear and insecurity. They make the mistake of thinking they're safer with guns than without them.

Now, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to stop them from doing that. I just want them to be qualified and responsible and when they fuck up I want them to lose their rights.

    6. 1. We are safer with guns. Not every one, and not all the time, but when it comes to safety, gun ownership and carry involves improving the odds. Guns aren't magic shields, but they are useful tools.

      2. You have no good reason for accusing us of being afraid or insecure. You don't know us personally; you aren't qualified to make psychological assessments, especially of people you have only communicated with on-line; you've shown your dislike for the rules of logical analysis.

      3. Qualified? We are qualified. We're citizens.

    7. Greg, it's very simple. If you believe there are a million or more legit DGU's then you have a point. But if the numbers of gun violence incidents exceeds the numbers of true DGUs, which I believe it does, then you're wrong. Simple.

  2. And would that be left or right amygdala, Mike? How does that correlate to the impact of the amygdala on the size and complexity of social networks? What does it say about social integration and cooperation and emotional intelligence?

    1. I don't know any of that. I just saw the study which found the large amygdala associated with fear. You must admit, it's pretty funny since one of our main theories is that you guys love guns out of inordinate and irrational fear of the attack that never comes.

    2. This brings me to a point that I raise with you many times. Mikeb, you accept a study when it supports your feelings, but you use no rational basis for that judgement. Getting a tingle when you read something doesn't mean that it's valid.

    3. C'mon Greg. You can see the humor too. Try.

    4. Everytime I read that word, 'amygdala', I'm reminded that you anti-self-defense goofballs suffer from anaclisis.
      See, now that's funny.

    5. After doing a little looking around, I see that Buddhist monks--particularly those who do compassion meditation--and artists also have larger amygdalae than the average person. The amygdala is also involved in memory formation.

The next time you callous and uncreative people try to feel superior to us, just remember that we feel sorry for you and we don't forget.

  3. Here we have a man who's making observations about the practical requirements and possibilities of carrying. Where's the fear?

But let's recall that Dog Gone not only carried a gun, but also has recommended having many of the other tools available. She even discussed a list of items that can be used as weapons in an attempted rape. Is she particularly fearful?
